ASPHALT
& BITUMEN
CLEANER
Historically it has been customary to use organic solvents to remove asphalt
and bitumen deposits, these are however potentially a health hazard and have
a major environmental impact. A great deal of care is required in handling
these volatile solvents and there are some difficulties associated with
their disposal.
New chemical technology has developed a range of low volatile solvents which
react quickly with the asphalt and bitumen, releasing these substances from
surfaces and holding them in solution.
The used solutions have a high calorific value and may be used as fuels in
suitable facilities, Alternatively the removed materials can be separated
from the solvent and disposed of without concerns about pollution.
Composition / Ingredients
Principally Methyl Oleate, Palmitate and Methyl Linoleate. These are derived
directly from natural edible plant oils. No synthetic derivatives, no
volatile organic compounds or customary solvents.
MODE OF ACTION
The molecular similarities between the asphalt and bitumen and ABC will
allow fast penetration between contaminant and the surface to be cleaned.
ABC creates an active liquid layer, which physically lifts the asphalt or
bitumen from the surface. ABC is also substantive to surfaces, leaving a
molecular film, which will inhibit the further build up of asphalt or
bitumen. This makes future cleaning easier, saving on time and costs.
- Works by dissolving the asphalt and bitumen - although based on oils from
vegetable sources the product is chemically similar, this facilitates the
dissolving process.
- ABC evaporates slowly leaving an oily finish, which helps prevent further
build-ups of material.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTS
With the increasing concern on the dangers to the environment ABC has been
specifically designed to be both chemically and biologically degradable.
This means that natural microbes can use the material for nutrition,
effectively breaking it down into non-polluting components.
- 100% biodegradable as the product is derived from edible oil sources.
- Has a very high flashpoint - therefore easy to use around working
machinery.
- Does not require pre-dilution with water - therefore if collected can be
used as fuel.
- No carcinogenic problems with use.
USES
- Can be used for coating as well as cleaning equipment.
- The viscosity means that it is very good for cleaning down machines and
tools, can be applied in enclosed situations.
- No specialised ventilation is required as does not emit any carcinogenic
fumes.
- Being compatible with most oils, both synthetic and natural it can also be
used for cleaning workshop and factory floors. This also applies to
spillages of bitumen on kerbs and pavements.
SUMMARY
- ABC is safe and easy to use.
- 100% biodegradable.
- Requires no mixing.
- Coats as well as cleans.
- No odour.
- Will not burn under normal circumstances due to high flash point.
- Effective with most oils and similar soils. |

ASPHALT
& BITUMEN
SLIP
Historically it has been customary to use mineral based oils for the purpose
of creating a slip layer between asphalt /bitumen and the carrying surface,
these are potentially damaging to both the structure of the asphalt/bitumen
(via dissolving action) and the environment.
Asphalt Slip is a completely bio degradable alternative, the application of
Asphalt Slip provides an active film designed specifically to reduce the
adhesion of asphalt and bitumen to surfaces.
COMPOSITION/INGREDIENTS
Amongst other components Methyl Fatty Acid Esters represent the greatest
proportion, providing a solution of low volatility and odour.
MODE OF ACTION
Asphalt Slip is substantive to surfaces, a molecular film is formed between
the asphalt and the surface on which the product is loaded/applied allowing
the asphalt/bitumen to be removed or slide over the surface.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTS
Unlike current anti adhesion products Asphalt Slip 2 is fully degradable
both chemically and biologically and poses no hazard to the environment. It
provides a source of nutrition to natural microorganisms in both water and
soil and will be degraded to harmless molecules within a very short time
scale. Asphalt Slip has no odour:
- is 100% biodegradable.
- can be diluted at varying ratios to suit different mixes- consumption can
therefore be reduced.
- is coloured so that even distribution is achieved and not over use.
- There is no requirement for specialist ventilation as there are no
carcinogenic fumes.
APPLICATION AND USES
Designed specifically for an anti adhesion treatment Asphalt Slip may be
used on many surfaces to prevent oily sticky materials from adhering. Its
main application is for use on vehicles carrying asphalt or bitumen where it
is sprayed onto a previously cleaned surface. All other equipment used for
spreading or applying asphalt or bitumen can be pre-treated to allow faster
and more effective cleaning.
Applying a coating of Asphalt Slip can protect surfaces adjoining an area to
be asphalted; it is also particularly useful for concrete shuttering
allowing a smooth release.
SUMMARY
- Is safe and easy to use.
- Is 100% biodegradable.
- Even coverage can be achieved.
- Very low levels of contamination with asphalt.
- No degradation of asphalt.
- Non-volatile.
- Reduces cleaning costs.
